Trade Union Sheds Light on Palestinians’ Job Losses
The federation explained that workers are subjected to systematic blockades, closures, and daily military raids by Israeli forces. It stressed that such policies “constitute a compounded crime” against Palestinian workers, stripping them of their fundamental right to employment and dignity.
The statement noted: “Israeli occupation policies over more than two years of continuous aggression have led to more than 500,000 Palestinian workers losing their livelihood, with unemployment rates rising to unprecedented levels exceeding 50% in the West Bank and more than 84% in the Gaza Strip.”
It further highlighted that Palestinian workers have suffered financial losses exceeding $9 billion, largely due to being prevented from reaching their workplaces and the destruction of key economic sectors such as agriculture, construction, and services.
The federation reported that since October 2023, 44 workers have been killed, hundreds injured, and more than 34,000 detained by Israeli forces.
Holding Israel accountable, the federation declared that the government is “fully responsible for these massive financial losses and for the killing of dozens of Palestinian workers at military checkpoints or due to settler attacks while they were trying to secure a livelihood for their families, in a blatant violation of international labor conventions and the Geneva Conventions.”
