Over half million Palestinians loss livelihood in West Bank, Gaza

(MENAFN) More than 500,000 Palestinians have lost their livelihoods in the West Bank and Gaza since the Israeli genocide began in October 2023, the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions reported on Saturday.

The federation highlighted that workers have faced systematic blockades, workplace closures, and daily raids by the Israeli army, describing these measures as a “compounded crime” that violates Palestinians’ rights to work and live with dignity.

Unemployment has reached unprecedented levels, exceeding 50% in the West Bank and more than 84% in Gaza. The report stated that Palestinian workers suffered financial losses exceeding $9 billion due to restricted access to workplaces and the destruction of key economic sectors, including agriculture, construction, and services.

The federation also noted that 44 workers have been killed, hundreds injured, and over 34,000 detained by Israeli forces since October 2023. It held the Israeli government fully responsible for these losses and deaths, citing violations of international labor laws and the Geneva Conventions.

Since the start of the conflict, Israeli military actions have killed over 70,700 Palestinians and injured more than 170,000 in Gaza. Attacks by both the army and settlers have also resulted in at least 1,097 deaths and nearly 11,000 injuries in the West Bank.
