Hamas Official Al-Hayya Warns Israel Over Ceasefire Breaches

(MENAFN) Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau and leader in the Gaza Strip, warned on Saturday that Israel’s ongoing violations of the ceasefire could have serious consequences.

Hamas said al-Hayya held calls with mediators and unnamed international parties after the Israeli army killed 37 Palestinians in the last 24 hours. Al-Hayya condemned Israel’s near-daily commission of “crimes and massacres” in Gaza, asserting that the attacks were carried out under “false pretexts and lies.”

He highlighted the repercussions of Israel’s “clear violation” of the ceasefire, emphasizing that the Palestinian resistance’s commitment to the truce requires forcing the occupying power to fulfill its obligations and preventing further violations. Hamas also blamed Israel for failing to address the plight of Palestinians trapped in tunnels in the Rafah area of southern Gaza.

Since the implementation of the Oct. 10 ceasefire, many Palestinians have remained stranded in Rafah, with Israel refusing to allow their exit despite mediation efforts, citing that some are members of Hamas’ military wing, the Izzeddin al-Qassam Brigades.

Although US President Donald Trump announced in mid-January that the second phase of his 20-point ceasefire plan had begun, unresolved issues related to the truce, including those trapped in tunnels, remain.

Separately, Palestinian resistance groups stated that Israel’s escalation of attacks in Gaza reflects a deliberate effort to undermine efforts to consolidate the ceasefire. The National and Islamic Forces Follow-up Committee said Israeli forces have continued to breach the truce, with attacks intensifying following the establishment of the Gaza Strip Administration National Committee.
