Central Gaza Witnesses Protest Over Cuts to Hot Meal Aid

(MENAFN) Dozens of displaced Palestinians assembled outside a World Central Kitchen distribution site in central Gaza to protest reductions in hot meal assistance, cautioning that the move could drive families back toward famine-like conditions.

In front of the organization’s distribution hub in Al-Masdar village, men, women, and children gathered while holding placards calling for the continuation of food support and urging the charity to reconsider its decision.

Several demonstrators struck empty cooking pots they had brought to the protest, voicing frustration over the reductions, which they said jeopardize one of the few remaining sources of support for displaced households.

World Central Kitchen stated that the decision was “driven entirely by financial pressure” and did not reflect any reduction in humanitarian need inside Gaza.

The organization added that it would keep providing hundreds of thousands of hot meals each day, after previously reaching 1 million meals daily following an expansion of operations prompted by deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
